A series of recent events and certain candidates have created feelings of fear and discouragement. In these challenging times, how can we effectively move forward while honoring the gift of democracy that God has entrusted to us?

The answer lies in seeking God's peace, which can only be achieved through Scripture and prayer. One of the oldest civic-religious traditions in American history is the practice of listening to an "Election Day" sermon. From 1634 to 1884, (which included the thirteen British American colonies), Election Day was considered a holy day. Courts closed, towns gathered for worship, and a designated pastor delivered an "Election Day Sermon" to the governor, legislature, and citizens before they voted.

It's important to note that these gatherings were not campaign rallies. Instead, they featured messages from the Bible that emphasized justice, virtue, unity, and the recognition of God's sovereignty over nations.

Founding-era giants like founder and framers of America like Samuel Adams and John Hancock sat under sermons that quoted Locke, Scripture, and Roman history. A famous and impactful point was made by Rev. Samuel West of Boston during a May 29, 1776 sermon that is said to have lit the fuse for the Declaration six weeks later said, "When rulers become wolves, the people have a divine right to resist."

In every election cycle, there are candidates who are like wolves in sheep's clothing. This can be seen through their false promises and "Cheshire Cat" appearances. Therefore, we should seek God's peace and entrust our lives to Him because no matter what, He has the finale say.
The Message Translation of Proverbs 16:1 says, "Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word."

Isaiah 26:3 promises that if we focus our minds on the Lord, (rather than on politicians or parties), His perfect peace will follow us: "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."

With this in mind we pray for each candidate to know Christ and seek God's guidance. We also pray for God to thwart any plans of evil that attempt to undermine our blessing of democracy.

Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired, "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while, and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer, and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything."
It's important to remember to release your stress as early as possible. Lay it down before God immediately. Stop allowing your pressures to live rent-free in your mind. Therefore, to "put down the glass of water," you must consider God's commands about stress.

Psalm 119:143 says, "As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands." Those commands include praying for wisdom, fasting, meditating on Scripture, and seeking counsel when necessary. These productive steps will yield the fruit of freedom in that you will release your stress to the Lord. First Peter 5:7 says, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

Holding onto and feeding your stress is a waste of time. Instead, give it to the Lord because
He cares for you and will provide for your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.

On this fateful day, they deliberately flew two planes into the 16-acre commercial complex in New York that was home to the Twin Towers and five other buildings. Tragically, the North and South Towers suffered direct hits, leading to their implosion. A third plane crashed into the western side of the Pentagon. Finally, a fourth plane, intended to hit the Capitol or the White House, was taken down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
As a result of these horrific acts of terror, 2,977 individuals lost their lives in the turmoil of 9/11, and many families continue to be affected by the aftermath. The suffering and loss of life due to the events of 9/11 continue to have an impact, with over 10,000 first responders and others developing 9/11-related cancer and well over five thousand deaths resulting from other 9/11 illnesses, according to Mount Sinai's World Trade Center Health Program Clinical Center of Excellence and CBS News.
According to testimonies of family members, friends, and work colleagues connected with 9/11, a common denominator was the refuge they found in God.
Seeking God for refuge was the primary focus in the hours and days following the attacks. People were flooding churches, prayer services were happening spontaneously, and even the elected officials sang "God Bless America" on the steps of the Capitol. The deadly event united people to look to God for refuge.
Accompanied by these steps of faith were unprecedented monetary contributions. Here in New York, we saw people from around the country come to volunteer at Ground Zero. Unfortunately, we have fallen far from that sense of unity and dependence on God. Currently, we are characterized by division rather than unity. Every political action is agenda-driven, with America suffering the consequences. Therefore, we need to remember the refuge we sought around 9/11.
Reflecting on the events of that day can help bring sobriety to our selfishness and lead us to sincere vigilance to rediscover the source of our strength. Psalm 46:1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
May God give increased peace to the families of 9/11, and may we never forget His refuge.

Turning Point became a prominent participant in the get-out-the-vote efforts for conservative candidates and played a significant role in our recent presidential election, particularly among young voters. Currently, Turning Point USA, primarily a youth organization, has grown to include over 650,000 lifetime student members, a staff of more than 450, and active chapters on over 3,000 college campuses nationwide, with revenue exceeding $80 million last year.

As a result, Charlie became well known both nationally and internationally for his college tour visits and conferences, where he boldly shared his faith and passionately, yet politely, represented his conservative political views. Although his gatherings also attracted attendees with diametrically opposing perspectives, Charlie's responses to their statements were consistently God-honoring, highly competent, and inspiring.

Those who share Charlie's Biblical convictions and conservative values, like myself, are both saddened and infuriated by his passing. He was clearly targeted because of his beliefs, and the circumstances surrounding his murder strike a blow to the very freedoms he so valiantly championed and that we currently enjoy. However, even though this was an attempt to silence those who think like Charlie, it serves as a reminder that this is more than a political issue; it is a wicked, demonic issue. The devil is at work, and he hates the progress of anything deemed "good" and the sharing of the Gospel, especially with young people. In many ways, Charlie was like America's "Young Adult's Pastor", attempting to spiritually steer his massive audience to Christ and educate them on the gross overreaches of those trying to use indoctrination warfare against our precious children.

While Charlie's achievements and accomplishments are impressive, his most significant claim to fame is his faith in Jesus Christ. A few days before his passing, Charlie posted, "Jesus defeated death so you can live."

At this moment, Charlie is more alive than ever, experiencing the reality of God's eternal promises as his faith has become sight!

Both husband and wife had well-paying jobs, and they wanted for nothing. However, if given the chance, they would trade their affluence for the opportunity to be parents in a second! To their credit, they did everything possible, including imploring the help of specialized physician programs and places, but to no avail. As time passed, some people in their inner circle became increasingly pessimistic about their window closing for having a baby. As a result, they started feeding into the negativity and became doubtful themselves. So they prayed about these negative reports from friends and doctors and decided to tune them out respectfully. Instead of listening to the fearmongering and the impossible talk of others, they prayerfully focused on the goodness of God and His promises. A few months later, the couple was pregnant with triplets!
‌
Whether God answers your prayers directly or indirectly, you want to keep this couple's practical strategy in mind. First, choose to kindly stop listening to people who do not have a mindset of faith (we will talk more about this in tomorrow's devotional)—allowing individuals and their fearful outlooks to control you is unhealthy and counterproductive. Second, focus on what is good and encouraging.
‌
Philippians 4:8-9 says, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable if there is any excellence if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."
‌
As you eliminate those negative voices and focus on what is helpful to your soul, peace will emerge amidst whatever problem you may be facing, and trust in God's power to provide will prevail.
‌
May God bless you in all your righteous prayer requests, especially those asking God to bless you with a child.

Maybe it's a relative or friend. Whether it was their voice or the warmth of their touch, just being with them lifted you. See, God created you to respond positively when in the presence of people who encourage or inspire you. Neurologically speaking, studies show that your brain releases oxytocin, which is a neurotransmitter that can produce a sense of overwhelming contentment.
‌
No wonder Psalm 16:11 says, "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand."
‌
When you get into God's presence, your brain responds in ways that impact you and your day for the better. Notice first that there is an unmistakable joy. Once again, neuroscience testifies to the handiwork of God and His creation.
‌
When you have joy, your brain releases dopamine that gives you a sense of happiness, positively affecting your appetite, mood, and ability to learn. Thus, your attitude and outlook improve. You process success as a blessing and setbacks as an opportunity. Even those people who irritate you don't seem so bad, and those problems aren't as big as you thought. Getting into God's presence also invites eternal promises (pleasures) such as peace and refuge, two indispensable blessings.
‌
While all this sounds wonderful, how do you get into God's presence? Perhaps the best way to begin is by starting with the Scriptures, particularly a Psalm like our verse today (Psalm 16:11), and you can expand that into an entire chapter or another book like the Gospels as you get going. But jumpstart your time immediately with God by zeroing in on one primary verse or passage. Next, either before or right after reading, listen to a worship song and reflect on the words. These combined actions will launch you into God's presence and redirect your focus.
Once God has your attention and you sense His presence, your prayers can also include praise and confession.
‌
Last, be consistent. For example, these years contain the Presidential elections, the Summer Olympics, and the Leap Year. You might ask, "What is Leap Year?" Well, Leap Year is when February gets a whole extra day, making it 29 days on the calendar instead of 28. As we know, a typical year has 365 days, referred to as a "common year." The phrase "common year" represents the days the Earth takes to complete one full orbit around the sun. However, the exact number is 365.242190, or another way to look at it: 365 days plus 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 56 seconds.
‌
There are two primary ways to help account for this "additional time." First, an extra day was added to our calendar. If we didn't have the extra day / Leap Year, eventually, our seasons would bleed into other months. For example, after approximately 700 years, our summers would begin in December. Our northern hemisphere's perspective of the seasons would be off, to say the least! Even in this process, an extra 44 minutes accumulate over the years, and it must be placed, which leads us to our second factor. Leap Year is skipped on specific years to accommodate the extra 44 minutes. For example, Leap Year was skipped in 1700, 1800, 1900, and 2000 and will be bypassed again in 2100.
‌
I know the understanding of Leap Year may be confusing, but what is clear to me is that God desires that we take leaps of faith in our spiritual growth. Second Corinthians 5:7 says, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." And Philippians 3:13-14, "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
‌
These verses tell us that when we live a life of faith, leave the past and its mistakes behind, and press on toward God's purposes in our Savior, we can potentially leap forward in our growth.
‌
Knowing this, seek God in faith and leave the results to Him!

I've noticed this while coaching the games of basketball and football. When the team is doing good, the coaches ride high. However, when the team starts to falter, the coaches become unglued, and their knee-jerk reaction is to shift the blame onto the kids. Everything becomes the players' fault, and their spirits are crushed sooner or later because they now have complete responsibility for the outcome of a play or the entire game.

Complaining is unproductive, whether it's a ball field or your living room. Not one of us reading this devotional likely doesn't groan outwardly or inwardly at times. All of us are guilty of grumbling about something. The question is, how do we overcome it?

Thankfully, the Scriptures are words of life and wisdom. God has repeatedly instructed us to curb our complaining and focus on greater perspectives. For example, Philippians 2:14 says, "Do everything without complaining and arguing… ."

Since nothing good comes from murmuring about people and problems, let us raise our perspective by seeking God and serving others. Complaining is unhealthy and can become chronic if you're not careful. It can also be contagious so that people around you come down with a "case of the complaints" as well.

Colossians 3:12 says, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."

Let us heed the wisdom given by God in the Scriptures and emulate His grace and mercy by responding to crisis and inconvenience with positive contribution rather than naysaying.

How you treat others matters to God and should matter to you. To help us with this critical responsibility, Jesus reflects selflessness and sincerity in His version of the Golden Rule: "In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you, for this fulfills the law and the prophets" (Matthew 7:12.)
‌
Interestingly, a version of the Golden Rule appears in many world religions and cultures. But whether it's the Bible or other religious documents, it is universally acceptable to treat people right. But if you still need to be convinced this is important, take the common sense approach. For example, imagine saying to someone, "Can you please treat me worse than I treat you?" You will not find anyone saying that because everyone wants fair treatment.
‌
See the Golden Rule ensures that you will be ethical and show integrity with others. Sometimes, treating others right will not be a popular decision. In some cases, it may prove costly regarding patience, pride, or popularity. The Josephson Institute of Ethics observed, "Ethics is about how we meet the challenge of doing the right thing when that will cost more than we want to pay."
‌
The Golden Rule helps eliminate any wavering regarding ethical decisions. And as you seek to treat people right, a common ground of respect is often reciprocated.
‌
In addition, approaching relationships this way doesn't mean you will see eye to eye with everyone. Instead, the Golden Rule allows you to disagree with others without being disagreeable. To be disagreeable is the equivalent of being offensive, prideful, rude, or obnoxious. Whereas respectfully disagreeing maintains the connection regardless of how far apart your views may be.
‌
Remember that we all blow it when treating people right—but thankfully, God offers forgiveness. If we are to follow God's golden guideline, we must pray for His help and the will to follow His standard!

Another study states that the sugar naturally found in honey helps draw water out of damaged tissues, reduces swelling, and encourages lymph flow to heal the wound.
‌
No wonder the Bible explains that kind words are like honey: good for the soul and body (Proverbs 16:24)!

Just as honey is sweet to the taste and refreshing for the body, so kind words, spoken sincerely, can work wonders.

For example, kind words can encourage and lift someone out of a dark place. Kind words can be timely and provide wisdom in a season of need. Kind words can be healing in that they bring comfort to a broken or grieving heart. Kind words can be motivating and push someone up who is down. Kind words can be corrective and give guidance to a friend who is on the wrong path. Kind words can be spiritual in that they impact necessary truth.
‌

To speak these kind words, you, "the source," must protect your heart and relationship with God. Proverbs 10:11 says, "The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life."

One primary factor in being righteous is seeking to do what is right before God and others. When we have a moral compass that desires to honor the Lord and be helpful to others, we can have a tongue of righteousness and speak life over people.
‌

Knowing this, concentrate on having a vibrant walk with God. It was a solemn warning to people not to repeat information that might be damaging or deadly if it fell into the wrong hands.

Likewise, you need to be vigilant when it comes to your communication with others because your careless lips can hurt people and sink your credibility quickly! Proverbs 11:13 says, "A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret."
"Betraying someone's confidence" not only compromises your credibility but also calls your overall communication and commitment into question. However, on one occasion, his finances were so low that he only had a dime to his name! As he approached the next house to make a sale, he thought he would ask for something to eat because it had been days since his last meal. He got to the home, rang the bell, and cleared his throat. To his surprise, a stunning young lady a few years older than him answered the door. At first, he was startled by her beauty, but then he proceeded with this humble request. Being somewhat embarrassed about this need, he slightly modified his question and kindly asked for something to drink. She returned with a cold, tall glass of milk. The young man graciously received the glass and gulped it down. He was reenergized and wanted to pay her the 10 cents he had left for the drink, but she refused. She said, "My mother always taught me that kindness is free."
‌
Several years later, this same lady became deathly ill. She had seen many doctors and spent nearly every penny she had on treatments, but to no avail. Finally, a doctor named Howard Kelly reviewed the case and decided to help. Upon visiting the sickly woman, he instantly recognized her and began to treat her with medical protocol, which thankfully worked! Meanwhile, Dr. Kelly instructed his staff to let him see her bill. Over the next four months, the woman got better and finally recovered. The enormous medical bill waiting for her was the only thing standing in her way of complete joy. When she opened the envelope containing the bill, it had a note written on it, "Paid in full with one glass of milk." The treating physician, Dr. Kelly, was the young man she gave the glass of milk many years ago.
‌
Proverbs 11:17 states, "Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you."
‌
What might seem like a meaningless glass of milk may be a life-saving blessing in disguise. See, kindness is remembered and eventually rewarded because God is watching. Sure, it may not happen immediately, but God will reward your kindness at just the right time. Therefore, don't waste time being cruel because that will damage your reputation and ultimately forfeit your blessings.
‌
Show the kindness of Christ and leave the results to God.

Turning away, he looks at his fingers and says, "Why can't you guys get organized like that?"

‌
While we are not advocating for unprovoked anger over TV channel choices, there is merit to Lucy's mindset. Just as our fingers curled into a fist can do more damage than just an individual finger, our lives, if invested together in a church context, can significantly impact an otherwise lost world. However, the key is getting on the same page, and the way to fulfill this necessary objective is by being united with the same level of thinking.
‌

First Corinthians 1:10 says, "I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment."

‌
The Corinthian church had its share of self-inflicted drama. As a result, Paul reminded them to steer clear of division and unify by having the same mindset and discernment over all matters.
‌
We need to approach church and each other the same way. Let us agree on the primary truths of Scripture and make the praise and honor of Jesus our number 1 priority. Next, let us seek to serve one another and leave any judgmental attitudes behind.

By God's grace, we will accomplish more together when we think this way.

Han Solo responds: "Never tell me the odds."
‌
We can learn a lot from Han Solo's focus.

Too often, we look at our troubles and do not take the time to seek God. Instead, we are focused on the "odds" of a crisis not working out or changing. We may have people around us, even some who are close, like family, who are naysayers and speak negativity over us, but we need to be like Solo and say, "Never tell me the odds."
‌
Solo used the odds to motivate his commitment to the mission, and we need to do the same. We need to focus on God, not our problems. We do this by obeying Him and not fearing the odds against us but instead using them to our advantage as our own holy motivation to move forward.
‌
See, Star

Destroyers may be chasing you down, but remember, "If God is for us, who can ever be against us" (Romans 8:31)? And, "No weapon formed against you shall prosper..." Keep traveling steadily along his pathway; in due season, he will honor you with every blessing, and you will see the wicked destroyed."

Numerous studies and surveys reveal that people typically wish for wealth, health, happiness, self-improvement, fame, and power.
‌
While wish-making may seem more like a fantasy, did you know that God gave a particular character in the Bible the opportunity to request anything he wanted?
‌
What if you could have one wish granted by God? What would it be? Would you wish for a better body, more money, better relationships, or to help others? To answer correctly, let's examine Solomon's conversation with God concerning his one wish.
‌
Second Chronicles 1:7-12, "That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, 'Ask for whatever you want me to give you.' 8 Solomon answered God, 'You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. 9 Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth.10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?" 11 God said to Solomon, 'Since this is your heart's desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king,12, therefore, wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions, and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.' "
‌
Notice that God gave Solomon a blank check, but his wish transcended all the typical responses to such a question. Solomon asked for wisdom, and God blessed that wish.
‌
It's prudent to ask God for wisdom because we need it to make decisions and determine His direction. God not only gave Solomon wisdom, but He also blessed Him with other potential wishes. See, without God's wisdom, we risk making choices that will end in regret and ultimately forfeit other blessings.

See, we can easily allow life's good and bad to distract us from spending time with God. Thus, we need a strategy for drawing close to Him. Scripture promises the blessing of His presence when we do so, as taught in James 4:8, which says, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

‌Here are a few proven practices for getting close to God:

‌First, be intentional about your relationship with God by managing the clock wisely. Psalm 90:12, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Putting Bible reading, prayer, Bible classes, and church attendance into the "Subject to Availability" category will not produce spiritual growth. Instead, you must set aside time for daily devotions and commit to serving at your church. Your wise use of your time will yield blessings across the board.

‌Secondly, seek God with humility. Regrettably, many inaccurate versions of Christianity condition people to be loud and proud in their pursuit of God, but that is not the path we need to be on! Eventually, this type of theology leads to arrogance, legalism, a judgmental attitude, and an unhealthy self-reliance. Proverbs 3:34 says, "He has no use for conceited people, but shows favor to those who are humble." And James 4:6 tells us, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

‌Finally, ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart daily. Psalm 139:23-24 says, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way."

‌Sinful pursuits provide the perfect soil for distractions to grow so big that they obstruct your view of God and your need to fellowship with Him. As you come before God, implement these verses into your prayer time. Allow the Lord to examine your heart.

‌Remember, you are as close to God as you choose to be!

As a result, despair can set in and compound your difficulty. In those situations, your best recourse is to wait on God and find hope in His promises in the Scriptures.

‌Psalm 130:5 says, "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word, I hope…" While this verse is true, you must realize that temptation will significantly increase while waiting for a breakthrough. In my experience, I was on a squad relating to sports and lived in a squad during my college days. Interestingly enough, some of my squad members and I are still close to this day.
‌
Think of your connection to church as you would a squad. We are unique members of God's team called by Him to be used in specific ways. For example, in John 13:34, Jesus established a standard for the squad of believers when He said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."
‌
In Galatians 6:2, the Apostle Paul tells us to "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
‌
The author of Hebrews added these commands concerning God's squads: "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Hebrews 10:24-25
‌
Are you part of God's squad? Whether you realize it or not, you need to be with other believers to grow and fulfill God's purposes for your life. It will be impossible to obey God without being connected to His church. There are numerous commands in the New Testament attached to serving others through the context of the church. In addition, you have a particular set of skills and gifts that God has given you to be used in advancing His kingdom plan. Being on the squad helps you discover and distribute those blessings.
‌
While there is no perfect squad, there is also no excuse for not being in God's squad. Finding the right one may take time, but remember, we must be diligent. Ultimately, be in a team that upholds God's Word so you can love the Lord and others accordingly. Also, your squad will help you find resources such as small group Bible studies and other ministries to assist in spiritual growth.
‌
To God be the glory for the blessing of the church. Now, go and support your squad today!

These false thoughts want you to believe that when anxiety comes, it has to stay, but that simply is not true. See, we have several effective alternatives to our anxiety struggles that you need to know about.
‌
Alternative #1 is prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Notice first that this type of prayer begins with diligently and persistently coming to God with a need; some translations call this petitioning. Secondly, we need to pray with thanksgiving. Gratitude is the enemy of fear, worry, and anxiety. Focus on what God has already done, and that anxious thought will not seem so big anymore.
‌
Alternative #2 is people. James 5:13-16 says, "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." Sadly, some limit this verse to physical or outward affliction, but this net of care should also cover those struggling between the ears. We must remember that God cares about people's emotional and mental well-being as much as their physical health. Therefore, reach out to a trusted friend, church leader, or counselor if anxiety is getting the best of you. There is absolutely no shame in sharing this struggle.
‌
Alternative #3 is participation. Proverbs 11:25 says, "Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered." We can never outgive God. Whether with money, time, gifts, or skills, God will bless your faithfulness to participate in His plans. As you help others and serve God, He will use those responsibilities as holy distractions while encouraging your spirit with the joy of serving. You will also find that God does His best work through us when we are weakest.
‌
Remember, when anxiety comes, we have choices!

Taking notes has several significant benefits. For example, it helps you concentrate and listen better. Secondly, note-taking prepares you for exams. Thirdly, it lets you catch information that may be forgotten after the class or presentation. Studies suggest that we forget approximately 50% of what we hear in the first hour and over 70% of it in the next 24 hours!
‌
The classroom is one of many places we need to be taking notes. If we want to retain more and go deeper in our walk with God, we should include note-taking in our listening and studying God's Word.
‌
On several occasions, God told Moses to write down what He was saying. One particular example stands out. God had to communicate the Ten Commandments a second time. The Lord could've just had Moses relay what He told verbally, but there were more effective strategies for remembering and obeying. See, these words were essential, and taking notes would guarantee that not only Moses but others would know what God desired. Exodus 34:27-28 says, And the Lord said to Moses, “ ‘Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.’ 28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments."
‌
God also used the principle of taking notes with Solomon and the Book of Wisdom. Proverbs 3:1-4 says, "My son, don't forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands; 2 for they will bring you many days, a full life, and well-being. 3 Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and high regard with God and people."
‌
Knowing this, get yourself a notebook. Write down what God reveals, including insights, questions, and prayers. If applicable, you can also take special notes identifying the context and characters of your reading. You should also take notes on the messages offered at church. Together, this practice will position you to grow in your faith, share God's Word better, be ready for life's tests, and recall God's promises.
‌
Remember, as someone once said, "A short pencil is better than a long memory."

Market Research Blog reported that 13.4 billion dollars were spent on self-help apps, books, coaching, holistic institutes, motivational speakers, and training organizations. A common denominator is frequently discussed but only sometimes applied in all those approaches. That shared standard principle is the secret to breakthrough for your dreams or goals, but even better, the principle is free to use. See, if you're going to experience abundance, then you need to form healthy habits, and perhaps one of the greatest ones you can develop has to do with giving. Yes, you read that right, not getting, but giving! See, in God's spiritual economy, giving leads to blessing. God will bless you with His approval and affirmation when you use your time, talents, and treasures for His glory, but remember, this doesn't come naturally. We must develop this habit to bless others, and here is how we do it.
‌
First, remember that God owns everything we have in life. Psalm 24:1 says, "The earth belongs to God! Everything in all the world is his!" Based on this verse and others like it, God is the boss, period, and end of story. Arguing or debating this point will make it impossible to cultivate this habit.
‌
Secondly, since God is the owner, recognize that we are His managers. First Peter 4:10 says, "Each one, as a good manager of God's different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God." Whether it is money, volunteer hours, a specific skill, using your home, classroom, place of work, or car, we are to manage whatever God has given us faithfully.
‌
Finally, reflect the giving heart of Christ. Second Corinthians 8:9, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake, he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich." We don't give to relieve religious guilt trips or because we want something from God; instead, we look to God's generosity through His Son as our example. Looking elsewhere will stifle your ability to give.
‌
When we apply these measures, we will listen to the Spirit's leading when those opportunities and responsibilities of giving arise. To God be the glory for the blessing and habit of giving!

These undertakings require tools, whether hanging light fixtures, changing outlets, unclogging pipes, fixing doors and steps, or painting. Thankfully, in my garage, I have two toolboxes, one bin of various supplies, and a few boxes of screws. I also have electric saws, plumbing snakes, and two ladders. However, one of my most valuable tools is my drill. Oh, I love my drill!

‌When it comes to my relationship with God, a spiritual tool that I like to use is fasting. Like my drill, fasting has proven to be highly productive. When I think of fasting, my thoughts shift to the Scriptures because it is mentioned or indicated over 8o times throughout the Bible. Although fasting is not commanded, it is discussed so much in the Bible and proves so powerful that it is a tool we should not neglect! Primarily, fasting involves the withholding of food.

‌Jesus taught on fasting several times in the Bible and recorded His own fasting. Therefore, besides other accounts, the Lord Himself provides much content and context concerning this effective spiritual tool. Here is one of those examples found in Matthew 6:16-19 where Jesus said, "And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

‌Notice that Jesus said "when," not "if," you fast. According to Jesus, fasting may be optional, but it is expected! The Lord also made sure to attach the standard requirements of praying and worship to fasting: sincerity. Thus, fasting is not to be mystical or manipulative. Instead, we should seek the Lord for increased strength, breakthrough, focus, and guidance when fasting. Also, we don't fast for atonement or forgiveness because Jesus has already provided that on the cross.

‌Knowing this, use the spiritual tool of fasting and humbly trust God for the results.

Pray Early And Often

Whether it's our daily responsibilities or mismanagement of time, the day has a way of slipping away. There are even seasons in life when struggles divert our attention, wear us down, and stifle our awareness of prayer.

‌According to the Bible, the most prudent and productive strategy for prayer is to pray early and often.

‌Notice first the example of praying early. Psalm 5:1-2 says, "O Lord, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. 2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. 3 Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly."

‌An excellent start to your day should include talking to God. Like any healthy communication, it should consist of speaking but also listening. You can use Scriptures like the ones mentioned in this devotional to assist you in getting into a mindset of prayer. You can also include the many thoughts or worries that flood your mind first thing in the morning. Like David, who authored this Psalm, make this prayer about the Lord. Also, you can even include singing and, if applicable, an instrument sometimes, as David did. The main point is to begin your day with prayer.

‌Secondly, be sure to seek God early and throughout the day. Ephesians 6:18 reminds us to "Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere."

‌I like to set reminders on my phone for prayer. It may be a family member, something I heard about at church, or saw on my newsfeed. The point is to be creative and proactive, or you will miss the opportunities to engage in prayer.

‌Remember that the old foes of procrastination and pride will push back on this practical plan to pray. Thus, double down and be diligent in this crucial habit because you will never regret talking to your heavenly Father early and often!
