Fatigue Makes You
Fatigue Makes You Vulnerable To Temptation | September 12, 2023
According to medical studies, sleep deprivation impacts numerous areas of your life. Sleep deprivation can cause anxiety, fits of anger, frustration, spikes in stress, increased appetite, risk of heart attack, accidents, angina, stroke, high blood pressure, and irritation. Suffering from any sleep loss, self-induced or not, can harm your overall health.
Likewise, lacking proper spiritual rest can put you at risk for temptation. The weaker you are, the more susceptible you are to the schemes and scams of the enemy. Also, responsibilities such as family and work benefit greatly from spiritual rest.
Repeatedly in the Scriptures, we are cautioned, commanded, and counseled to find rest in the Lord's presence. When Moses was considering the daunting task of leading God's people again, the Lord graciously promised him rest. Exodus 33:12-14 says, "Moses said to the Lord, 'You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name, and you have found favor with me.' 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.' 14 The Lord replied, 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.' "
David said that he found rest in God's presence. Psalm 62:1-2 says, "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. 2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken."
Jesus' invitation to heaven and salvation is connected to rest as well. Matthew 11:28-29 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
The best medicine for burdensome tasks, a troubled heart, or a vexed spirit is to rest in the Lord. Spending time in God's presence is a game changer. We can chase all of the world's methods and even some merit-worthy protocols, but the result will be the same—more frustration and fatigue. We need the rest that only God can provide. Finding rest in the Lord will help us respond to trials productively and strengthen us against temptation.
