Focus On Faithfulness
Focus On Faithfulness | January 1, 2024

As the calendar turns to 2024 and God graciously gives us another day, adopting "a word" for the New Year would be prudent. This particular word can be your true north to direct you along the right path, a guiding light when darker times come, or a margin when temptations get too close. The word I want to encourage you to use is "Faithfulness."
See, like a loving and virtuous parent, God desires to bless those who do what is right, and in heaven's view, that comes down to faithfulness. Second Chronicles 16:9a says, "The Lord is constantly watching everyone, and he gives strength to those who faithfully obey him."
Focusing on faithfulness can significantly improve every aspect of our lives. When we are faithful to God, His favor will not be far behind. When we are faithful within the context of our relationships, stronger bonds of trust and loyalty will form. Likewise, being faithful on the job, to our team, and with our other responsibilities will yield blessings, but we must equally be patient for God's timing on these matters.
However, since this word is vital to our overall relationship with God and others, how exactly do we focus and execute this goal of faithfulness before God?
First, we need to do less talking and more doing. The Bible says in Proverbs 20:6, "Everyone talks about how faithful he is, but just try to find someone who really is!" The business of faithfulness is actions, not words. If someone wants to call you faithful, so be it, but we should never make any self-proclamation. Instead, let us seek faithful actions and reactions.
Secondly, we need to be faithful to God regarding our time. If you are going to hit those New Year's goals of fitness, finance, or family responsibilities, those old excuses that held you back need to be left behind. The same holds true for your relationship with God. Giving God the leftovers of your time will not cut it. Begin by protecting your church commitments. "Let us not neglect our meeting together..." (Hebrews 10:25a). Attending church regularly, Bible Study groups, volunteering, and your personal reading of the Scripture and prayer will produce faithfulness in time.
Knowing this, adopt the word of faithfulness. Seek to be faithful to the Lord, others, and your responsibilities, and leave the results to Him Happy New Year!
