Develop The Habit Of Giving

Develop The Habit Of Giving | February 1, 2024

The business of self-improvement is a growing and robust industry. Market Research Blog reported that 13.4 billion dollars were spent on self-help apps, books, coaching, holistic institutes, motivational speakers, and training organizations. A common denominator is frequently discussed but only sometimes applied in all those approaches. That shared standard principle is the secret to breakthrough for your dreams or goals, but even better, the principle is free to use. See, if you're going to experience abundance, then you need to form healthy habits, and perhaps one of the greatest ones you can develop has to do with giving. Yes, you read that right, not getting, but giving! See, in God's spiritual economy, giving leads to blessing. God will bless you with His approval and affirmation when you use your time, talents, and treasures for His glory, but remember, this doesn't come naturally. We must develop this habit to bless others, and here is how we do it.

First, remember that God owns everything we have in life. Psalm 24:1 says, "The earth belongs to God! Everything in all the world is his!" Based on this verse and others like it, God is the boss, period, and end of story. Arguing or debating this point will make it impossible to cultivate this habit.

Secondly, since God is the owner, recognize that we are His managers. First Peter 4:10 says, "Each one, as a good manager of God's different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God." Whether it is money, volunteer hours, a specific skill, using your home, classroom, place of work, or car, we are to manage whatever God has given us faithfully.

Finally, reflect the giving heart of Christ. Second Corinthians 8:9, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake, he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich." We don't give to relieve religious guilt trips or because we want something from God; instead, we look to God's generosity through His Son as our example. Looking elsewhere will stifle your ability to give.

When we apply these measures, we will listen to the Spirit's leading when those opportunities and responsibilities of giving arise. To God be the glory for the blessing and habit of giving!
