Your Most Important Decision
Your Most Important Decision | January 22, 2024
Making resolutions is expected during the start of a new year or a season of change. It could be working out more or eating less. It might be to resolve to treat people better or excel in your profession. Other goals include finances or personal growth. All of these potential choices are admirable and worthy of our focus. However, your most important decision involves Jesus Christ.
Think of it this way: you can have everything you have ever wanted (possessions, people, pleasure, profession, etc), but if you don't have Jesus, you don't have His most essential provision—peace! I'm reminded of this slogan:
No Jesus, No Peace
Know Jesus, Know Peace
Romans 5:1 declares, "Therefore since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us."
Whether you realize it or not, peace with God is your most crucial need. See, religion will not give you this peace with God, nor will all the money in the world. Instead, you must believe that what Jesus did on the cross is enough and that He rose from the dead. Romans 5:2 calls this a decision of faith when it says, "Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory."
But what about our sins and shortcomings? How about our bad habits or hangups? Won't these things get in the way of having peace with God? Listen, you are not alone in thinking this way. But, God gives you information (Scripture) so you can make your own decision of faith regardless of your shortcomings. Consider these verses:
Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 10:9, "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
And John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Make the wise decision to trust Christ, and you will have the peace of God.
